Fulvio Giannini, born in 1951, lives and works in Trieste. He takes art back to a few basic elements by means of the extreme syntactic subtraction and all-consuming rarefaction of an image which precariously emerges from the pages of an old exercise book and impalpable fabrics. The material the artist uses not only serves as a simple support for what he writes on it, but also becomes a self-significant reality which claims its own quality and artistic integrity. The designs and sentences drawn on cloth and white pages seem to emerge from the white of the wall and appear to satisfy the surface with ever varying games. Fulvio Giannini reserves the wall as the place for his works, but by a strenuous reductive process abolishes the confines of the representation (there are neither frames nor borders) and permits the work to interact freely with the surrounding space. The immediacy and apparent spontaneity of the gesture hide the tension and the relentless inquiry to which the work has been subjected. The beholder must follow the same laborious, radical route the artist has taken - but is then rewarded by the lightness of these strips of writing infused with secret correspondences and is charmed by the fascination of absence and a richly poetic atmosphere.
