| Monica Biancardi was born in Naples in 1972. She graduated from
the Academy of Fine Arts with an experimental thesis on theatre
photography. She began very early to collaborate with important filmmakers, both Italian and foreigner, while conducting her own research in photography. The first project, an anthropological study entitled Credere (To Believe), has been acquired by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. Her first solo show Ritratti (Portraits), held at the gallery Riccardo Artivisive in Naples, has been warmly received and allowed her to show her works at the MACBA in Barcelona, in Madrid and Salamanca and at the Biennial of Photography in Brescia. She took part in the exhibition dedicated to Dadaist art curated by Achille Bonito Oliva who invited her to design a cell inside the Charterhouse of Padula. One of her portraits also won the prize Serrone, at Villa Reale in Monza. Some time ago one of the works of the Aldilà (Afterlife)project had been acquired by the new Naples Underground. In Catania, she had realized a reportage titled Journey to Librino with the collaboration of the Israeli author Mejr Shalev. In 2005 she organized, involving many women, Un abbraccio per la pace (An Embrace for Peace), a performance which took place in Piazza Castello, in the very heart of Milan and that had later been brought to Piazza Dante in Naples and to the Olive Mountain in Jerusalem where it involved Arab and Israeli women together. The year after Monica Biancardi has dedicated to her prematurely deceased father her new project: Mutamenti. After several journeys to the Palestinian territories an exhibition and the related catalogue were committed by Al Quds University in Jerusalem. Recently the municipality of Naples had invited her to present the Orientamenti project in a big exhibition at the Museo Capodimonte in Naples. |
