Antonio Pio Saracino (1976) is an Italian-born architect and designer, living and working in New York and Italy. Awarded for Agorafolly Europalia in Brussels for the 50th Anniversary of the EU Designer of the ENI trohpy for the FORMULA ONE world Championship 2010- 11 In 2003, Saracino graduated cum laude with a master’s degree in Architecture at the University of Architecture “La Sapienza” in Rome, where he was also an assistant professor of architectural design. For the following two years, he worked with several Italian and US architectural firms including Massimiliano Fuksas in Rome where he worked on the Palazzo Congressi project in Rome. Since 2004, he has worked in tandem with New York-based architect Steve Blatz on interior design, conceptual projects and design competitions, such as the Seed House, a pod-shaped residence that received an American Architecture Award in 2007 from the Chicago Museum of Architecture. Saracino is a four-time winner of the Future Furniture Design Competition sponsored by Interior Design magazine. His projects have received extensive coverage from design and art media in Italy, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Australia, Japan and the US. His 2007 design work at the Tibi botique in New York’s Soho was featured in Interior Design’s “Best of the Year” issue and the “Global Shop” section of Wallpaper*. He was also named one of ARTnews magazine’s 25 most interesting trendsetters. In 2007-2008 Saracino was selected as the winner of the Agorafolly art competition in Brussels, Belgium, to create a work celebrating the 50th anniversary of the European Union. His large-scale installation created on behalf of the nation of Italy was mounted in front of the La Gare Centrale train station. More recently he designed a monument honoring the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy for the Museum of Contemporary Art Carafa in Cordoba Argentina. He designed the 2010 Formula One and Moto GP World Championship trophy. For more than a decade Saracino’s designs and artwork have been shown in individual and group exhibitions in Rome, Brussels, London, Moscow, Cordoba, Mexico City, Athens, Sydney, New York and Washington, DC. In 2011 Saracino has been recognized as one of the Top Ten italian Architects under 36 years old by the New Italian Blood award. He has also been selected to exhibit his work in the Italian Pavillion in the World for the 2011 edition of the Venice Art Biennal. |
