Fulvio Eccardi biologist and photographer, born in Italy and naturalized as a Mexican citizen, has devoted the last thirty five years to document Mexico’s biodiversity. As well, he has been involved in promoting and researching themes regarding environment and natural resources conservation.

He has worked with organizations such as the Instituto de Historia Natural de Chiapas (Chiapas’ Natural History Institute), Conservation International, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, Mexican Fund for Nature Conservation (FMCN) and Pronatura.

His photographs has been featured in numerous national and international science, tourism and anthropology publications such as Oasis, Airone, BBC Wildlife, Animal Kingdom, Madame Figaro, International Wildlife and National Geographic.

He has taken part to several photographic exhibitions in Canada, United States, Japan and Mexico. In 2002, Fulvio Eccardi was invited to present the exhibition Vuelo (Flight) in Centro de la Imagen, cultural center in Mexico City. In 2003, he presented Selvas, desiertos y mares (Forests, deserts and seas) at the Forest Expo in Guadalajara, Mexico, that same year he inaugurated the first national photographic exhibition México, naturaleza viva (Mexico living nature), along Paseo de la Reforma , Mexico City’s main avenue, which featured 150 photographs and was seen by more than five million people during its five month display. In 2006, the same exhibition travelled to the Alameda Hidalgo in the Mexican state of Querétaro, along with twenty five photographs of the Sierra Gorda, joya verde del centro de México (Sierra Gorda, Mexican jewel of nature) collection.

In 2003, Eccardi received the La Diosa de la Luz (Light Goddess) award for best nature photographer of the year. He participated as a photographer and consultant for the 2005 Aichi Japan Expo’s Mexican team. Out of the 126 participating countries, the Mexican pavilion received the Nature’s Wisdom Award, along with silver and gold medal recognitions in other categories. In 2005, he took part to the photographic collection titled La otra cara de tu ciudad (The other side of your city), which was exhibited in an open gallery along Mexico City´s Paseo de la Reforma. In 2009, he presented the photographic exhibition Biodiversidad y consumo responsable (Biodiversity and responsible consumption) for the 2010 Earth Day in Xcaret located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. For the International Year of Biodiversity, he presented México Megadiverso (Mexico Megadiversity) in the Mexican state of Morelos. For the 2010 Mexican Bicentennial celebrations, he inaugurated the exhibition Águila real, símbolo vivo de México (Golden Eagle, Mexico’s living symbol) in the National Museum of History in Castillo de Chapultepec, where it remained from December 2010 until April 2011 and was visited by more than 268 000 viewers. This same exhibition is currently on display in the Cultural Center of Santo Domingo in Oaxaca.

Since 1995, Eccardi has been editor of the Biodiversitas bulletin, published by Comisión Nacional para el Conocimiento y Uso de la Biodiversidad (Biodiversity Use and Knowledge National Commission) and main editor and coauthor of several books, which include:

Historias de Conservación (2002) (Conservation Stories); Animales de México en peligro de extinción (2003) (Mexican Endangered Animals); México, naturaleza viva (2003) (Mexico, Living Nature); México, valor de origen (2006) (Mexico, Origin Value); Tierra Mexicana (2007) (Mexican Land); Biodiversidad y consumo responsable (2008) (Biodiversity and Responsible Consumption); El Triunfo, la tierra de una leyenda viviente (2008) (El Triunfo, Land of a Living Legend); Ciudad de México (2009) (Mexico City); Águila real, símbolo vivo de México (2010) (Golden Eagle, Mexico’s Living Symbol); Café, grandeza de Chiapas (Coffee, Greatness of Chiapas), Natura en la mira (Nature in sight) and Il caffé, territorio e diversitá (Coffee, Territory and Diversity) including editions in Italian (2000), English (2002), Portuguese (2003), Japanese (2005), Hebrew (2006), Russian (2007) and Chinese (2011).

He is the current President of the Conservation Fund for El Triunfo (A biosphere reserve in the mountains of Chiapas) and Director of Gaia Editores publishing house. In the last four years, he has dedicated his work to the study and photographic documentation of the Golden Eagle in the mountainous region of Zacatecas and Jalisco, Mexico.

Through his career he has captured more than 500,000 photographs for scientific and cultural diffusion.

The 10% of the sales of the exhibition held at LipanjePuntin artecontemporanea will be donated to the Fondo de Conservación El Triunfo, this Fund was founded in 2002 in order to preserve natural resources and to promote the social development of the reserve (http://www.fondoeltriunfo.org/).
